Psilocybin Therapy

Trying to open the mind can be like opening Pandora’s box. Unlocking so many areas in our mind that may be blocking our progress in life can be tedious. Therapy, Mantras, Sound Therapy are all great tools in the battle to unlock our lives and yet is there a more efficient way to do this? The answer may be Psilocybin Therapy.

Psilocybin Therapy is basically a medical practice in which a predetermined dosage of psilocybin is administered to a patient (by a therapist) during a supervised therapy session.  It has the potential to relieve “existential distress” in cancer patients; break addictions to cigarettes, alcohol, and cocaine; and bring relief to people struggling with depression and PTSD.

There are numerous studies on Psilocybin Therapy have consistent results. A recent study published in November 2020 in JAMA Psychiatry showed that psilocybin-assisted therapy was associated with decreases in depression symptoms, with 71% of participants showing a clinically significant response at the 1-month follow-up, and with minimal side effects.

The results of Psilocybin Therapy have been so promising that psilocybin has received “Breakthrough Therapy” Designation from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), after evidence showed that it may be more beneficial than current treatments.

On a cautionary note, Psilocybin use can be risky. Please make sure to use this therapy with a trained professional.   Users may experience vomiting, panic, paranoia and potentially traumatic “bad trips”. “Bad trips” can last up to 8 hours. This is why the therapist is so important because they can help guide you through so you can effectively deal with what is in your dreamlike state of being. Also, if you’ve ever been diagnosed with bipolar disorder or psychosis, it’s important to steer clear of psilocybin.

Psychedelics like psilocybin are still under investigation, but they are a promising treatment that could provide another method to help individuals with alcoholism, drug dependency, stress, PTSD and depression. You should click on any of the highlighted text for more information on the treatment.
