Kundalini Yoga

I decided the other day that I was going to participate in Kundalini Yoga. First Step, I ordered a DVD off of Amazon. I know what you are thinking, “Silly, you can just complete a Kundalini Yoga Class on the Internet.” and my reply would be “I am 90’s old school. I live, breathe, die, DVD.” I manage to find a DVD by GAIAM made in the 2000’s (Breaking my 90’s rule, but c’est la vie). The DVD is called, in case you want to try as well, Gurmukh’s Kundalini Yoga. Now, before I tell you the results of the Kundalini Yoga, I want to at least let you know why I tried it.

I have a love/hate relationship with exercise in general. I love what it does for me, but hate having to leave my chair. This love/hate relationship plagues me the most in the winter. Where I live, it is raining and cold and the chair is so snug and warm. I promise this blog is not about the attributes of my glorious chair, but about Kundalini yoga. According to Gaiam’s website, Kundalini yoga is a blend of Bhakti yoga (the yogic practice of devotion and chanting), Raja yoga (the practice of mediation/mental and physical control) and Shakti yoga, (for the expression of power and energy).

Kundalini is a form of divine feminine energy believed to be located at the base of the spine, in the muladhara. It is an important concept in Śhaiva Tantra, where it is believed to be a force or power associated with the divine feminine or the formless aspect of the Goddess. This energy in the body, when cultivated and awakened through tantric practice, is believed to lead to spiritual liberation. I tried Kundalini yoga in order to utilize it as a tool to help with spiritual growth and healing. If you need 10 reasons to give Kundalini yoga a shot, please try this blog link.

Overall review of the DVD, I will do Kundalini yoga again and I am extremely out of shape. There was a lot of arm movements. The DVD was 1 hour and I was so tired afterwards. I was also light-headed. I had a moment of excitement when I thought I had a spiritual break though. I didn’t though, just out of shape. That is why I am going to give it another go. Was I just light headed or for a brief second did I experience a Kundalini moment. I think the more I get in-shape, it will be easier to discern.

The Magic of Water

Growing up, we have been told that our bodies is made of 70% water. Since our bodies have so much water, it is only natural to wonder how it effects us.  Dr. Gerald Pollack, who is one of the leading premier research scientists in the world when it comes to understanding the physics of water, and what it means to your health.

His book, The Fourth Phase of Water: Beyond Solid, Liquid, and Vapor, explains that the fourth phase as living water. It’s referred to as EZ (“exclusion zone”) water, which has a negative charge. Water can hold energy, much like a battery, and can deliver energy too. Also, the book went through experiments to demonstrate that the boiling point and freezing point can be at multiple temperatures, not just one. Other inherent differences between regular water and EZ water include its structure. Typical tap water is H2O but this fourth phase is not H2O; it’s actually H3O2. It’s also more viscous, more ordered, and more alkaline than regular water, and its optical properties are different. The key ingredient to create EZ water is light, i.e. electromagnetic energy, whether in the form of visible light, ultraviolet (UV) wavelengths and infrared wavelengths. Why is this important? Because EZ water is alkaline and carries a negative charge. Maintaining this state of alkalinity and negative charge appears to be important for optimal health. EZ water was confirmed in many laboratories all over the world and has been scientifically proven.

EZ water affects your body in a few different ways:

  • More energy from stronger mitochondria. EZ water delivers electrons to your mitochondria, the powerhouses of your cells, and helps them generate more energy.
  • Anti-aging. EZ water acts like an antioxidant, protecting your cells from free radicals and slowing down cellular aging.
  • Protein folding. EZ water supports proteins, too. Proteins are the workhorses of your cells. They’re origami-like folded structures that affect just about everything your body does. The issue is that proteins can only function if they’re folded correctly. Stress makes proteins unfold and/or misfold; they lose function, and can only start working again if they absorb enough energy to snap back into place. EZ water binds to proteins and can deliver the energy they need to recover and begin doing their job again.

To obtain a natural source of EZ water for drinking, a deep spring water is best. EZ water is created under pressure. You can use FindaSpring.com2 to help you find a natural spring closest to you. Another way to create EZ water is blending. Water absorbs vibrational energy when you blend it, which turns a portion of the water into EZ water. Recent research by Dr. Gerald Pollack, who discovered EZ water, shows that even more EZ water forms when you blend butterfat into water, which is one of the many reasons to drink Bulletproof Coffee every morning. If you don’t go for coffee, you can make EZ water by blending regular water for at least 30 seconds.

Exposing your body to Sunlight is another way to create EZ water.  Sunlight has plenty of the 1200 nm light that creates EZ water, plus a bunch of other spectra. EZ water forms in your cells when you expose your skin to unfiltered sunlight for a few minutes every day without sunglasses, clothing, or sunscreen. The more skin you expose, the more EZ water you’ll make. Please do stay out to long without sunscreen.

Another way to obtain EZ water is utilizing a NanoVi machine. The NanoVi machine at Bulletproof Labs sends water through 1200 nm radiation and you breathe it in, creating EZ water that spreads throughout your entire body.

If you have access to an infrared sauna, then this is also an option in making EZ water. Sitting in an infrared sauna will give you a concentrated dose of 1200 nm light and make lots of EZ water, which could explain why infrared saunas are so good at speeding up muscle recovery and tissue repair.

Cheeky Chakras

Have you ever felt like everything in your system is off and you can’t figure out what it is? I promise, it was not the late night pizza (keep reading, the Dad jokes keep getting better) (now pause for effect) it is your Blocked Chakras.

It sounds crazy, but, unblocking your chakras maybe what you have always needed. First, what are chakras? Chakra refers to the energy points in your body. They are thought to be spinning disks of energy that should stay open and aligned, since they can affect our emotional and physical well-being.

There are 7 main chakras, please see below:

Crown Chakra: Located on the top of the head. If this chakra is blocked, the following issues can arise through the brain and nervous system as well as enlightenment being blocked.

Third Eye Chakra: Located between the eyes and in the brow area. If this chakra is blocked, the following issues can arise through headaches, issues with sight or concentration, and hearing problems.

Throat Chakra: Located in the throat area. If this chakra is blocked, the following issues can arise through teeth, gums, and mouth, and difficulties speaking your mind.

Heart Chakra: Located in the heart area. If this chakra is blocked, the following issues can arise through heart problems, asthma, and weight issues.

Solar Plexus Chakra: Located in the upper abdomen/stomach area. If this chakra is blocked, the following issues can arise such as digestive issues like ulcers, heartburn, eating disorders, and indigestion.

Sacral Chakra: Located below the belly button and above the pubic bone. If this chakra is blocked, the following issues can arise such as urinary tract infections, lower back pain, and impotency.

Root Chakra: Located at the base of the spine. If this chakra is blocked, the following issues can arise such as arthritis, constipation, and bladder or colon problems, or emotionally through feeling insecure about finances.

Now on to balancing your chakras. Below are some common practices you can use to balance your chakras:

  • Energy Healing
  • Chakra Meditation
  • Yoga
  • Breath work
  • Chakra Tuning Forks
  • Chakra Healing Stones
  • Holistic Health
  • Sound Healing

It is worth giving one of the methods listed above a try and see how you feel afterwards. I always feel less stressed out afterwards.

Cryotherapy: 5 ways it can help you

Cryotherapy is basically freezing your body in order to stimulate your skin, increase your blood circulation, reduce joint pain, provide mental stimulation and reduce muscle pain.

There are several different types of cryotherapy such as facial, localized and booth. I have had several sessions of cryotherapy in a booth and I always feel like I am 16 again (for at least an hour) after the session is complete. I have also tried the cryotherapy facial, which is used to reduce wrinkles, fine lines and improve skin tone. The cryotherapy facial was nice, but I did not notice a dramatic difference in my skin’s appearance. However, in the cryotherapy facial’s defense, I only had one session.

I have read on the internet that people can have difficultly with cryotherapy. If you have high blood pressure and/or heart conditions please check with your doctor, before trying a treatment. Children and pregnant women should not utilize cryotherapy.

However, with that being said, please see the 5 ways cryotherapy can help you below:

  1. Pain relief and muscle healing: The cryotherapy booth and localized cryotherapy are popular ways to help with muscle pain, as well as some joint and muscle disorders, such as arthritis. It may also promote faster healing of athletic injuries. Soccer star, Cristiano Ronaldo, has turned to a cryotherapy chamber in order to aid his recovery and to provoke a process of muscle regeneration and immune-system stimulation.
  2. Reduced inflammation: Cryotherapy is great for reducing inflammation, this can improve your overall health and reduce the risk of numerous chronic ailments.
  3. Preventing dementia: A 2012 paper puts forward the possibility of cryotherapy being able to reduce the inflammation and oxidative stress associated with dementia, mild cognitive impairment, and other age-related forms of cognitive decline.
  4. Reducing anxiety and depression: A small 2008 study found that in a third of people with depression or anxiety, cryotherapy reduced symptoms by at least 50 percent. This was a much greater reduction than in people who did not undergo cryotherapy.
  5. Improving symptoms of eczema: In 2008, there was a small study of people with eczema, which had participants stop using eczema medications. They then tried cryotherapy. Many of them saw improvements in their eczema symptoms, though some complained of frostbite on small areas of the skin.

If you have a chance, look for a deal online and try a cryotherapy session. It is a fun adventure and worth trying once.

Glorious Goat Yoga: What to Expect and Prepare

Glorious it is this new founded Yoga which involves Goats! You are wondering how is this healing be accosted by goats while trying basic yoga moves? A bold question indeed and the response to that query is they are just Great FUN! The Goats are excited to see everyone and get goofy and in turn the humans get goofy with them. Now you are thinking well I must try this, but what should I know about Goat Yoga before trying it. Glad you asked.

My Friendly Goat Companions

Top Ten things you should Prepare and know about Goat Yoga (maybe should have used this for the title but c’est la vie).

1. Wear old clothing: Make sure not to wear anything new or you have the slightest affection for because Goat Yoga can be disgusting! Don’t let this put you off, but the Goats have no issue relieving themselves on top of you, near you, around you. You get the picture.

2. Take an extra shirt or sweatshirt. Please see Comment 1, if curious as to why.

3. Adult goats are heavy. Not much you can do if an adult goat thinks your the cat’s pajamas, however, it will test your strength and resolve. This will also lead to an amusing story that will at least be the topic of conversation for many weeks.

4. Do not encourage head butting. They will ask you not to play with the goats in head butting. I highly agree with this assessment. The last thing anyone needs is to be knocked out after trying to complete downward dog.

5. Most places will provide you with Yoga Mats. Check before going, but most Goat Yoga Institutions provide the mats due to the incidents that may occur.

6. You do not need to be skilled in yoga. Trust me, I went and my yoga skills are subpar at best.

7. Make sure to take pictures, everyone you know will want to see.

8. You will be interacting more with the Goats then performing yoga. Between shaking off your yoga mat and wondering when the Adult Goat will jump on the next back, I can confidently say you do not need to be in great shape to complete this exercise.

9. Nor rain, nor snow, nor dark of night…..well….maybe just nor rain. I live in the Pacific Northwest and the Goat Yoga moved forth even with rain. The place had a mock party tent, so we stayed dry, enjoyed being outside, and hung out with some hilarious goats.

10. Prepare the checkbooks, you will want to buy the merchandise. It is hard to walk away from a Goat Yoga Sweatshirt, especially if you were involved with a Goat’s bathroom break. However, it is really just a great conversation starter with people. When I am involved in an awkward situation, without an appropriate topic, I can in a cool causal manner, point to my shirt and then the conversation flows.
